Cabernet for Cancer

It’s almost here! Mr. Mix and I shuffled off to Buffalo yesterday and will attempt our first ever cycling event to raise money for the cancer research and treatment center that cured my Mamma and continues to fight for every patient who walks through their doors. The Ride for Roswell bike-a-thon has become this all-important testament of gratitude to me for the remarkable care and dignity my mom met with at The Roswell Park Cancer Institute. After a long search for the best facility to treat her rare and aggressive cancer, we were stunned to discover that the doctors in our own backyard offered Mamma the best chance at living out the rest of her life cancer-free. I couldn’t be more humbled to tell you they accomplished their mission; Mamma is healthy, almost miraculously back at work, and will ride by my side this Saturday, June 25th as we take to the streets (bike helmets adorned!) to do everything we can to give back.

Thanks to so many of you generous souls, I have already raised and exceeded my $1,000 donation goal. I’m in the VIP club now, baby…but that doesn’t mean I’m done fundraising. If you have it in your heart and your wallet to give, please make a donation today before it’s too late. Every penny counts, but the biggest donator will be gifted a magnum of my friend Steve Rivera’s 2005 Rivera Cabernet. This very same bottle has sold for as much as $50,000 at the Napa Valley Wine Auction, but it can be yours just for placing the biggest, tax-deductible bid on my donation page–and hey, you’re also helping to cure cancer…so pretty sweet deal!

To make a donation and enter to win the wine, just click here. To read up on my Mamma’s heroic story, visit my profile page to get the full scoop. To check out our team web page or join me to ride by my side tomorrow (it’s not too late…I have an extra bike for anyone who needs one!!!), mosey on over to the aptly named Team FIVE MONTHS WITH CANCER AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS LOUSY T-SHIRT…we have an extra t-shirt too! I’ll announce the Wine Winner tomorrow. For more info on Steve’s vineyard and all the awesome foundations he’s supported by auctioning off his wine for charity, visit his website and learn more about our Cabernet for Cancer competition.

Everyone’s invited to the After-ride Pool Party at Mamma’s tomorrow at 4:00. Come on over for pizza, beer, strawberry shortcakes and pool volleyball! I offer tremendous thanks every single one of you who have donated. The depths of my devoted gratitude are rivaled only by my fidelity to fromage.

Have a wonderful ride and enjoy the after party – strawberry shortcakes sound like the perfect post-race fuel!

Thanks friend! The Ride was AMAZING, not least of all because my Mamma managed to ride all 22 miles by my side. It was so inspiring, so rewarding and so wonderful! I’ll do it again next year, and I really appreciate your encouragement!
