Food is a seductive sensory experience. First senses being taste and smell, of nearly equal importance, but presentation is a close third in the race to wow your dining crowd. Sight’s a big one when it comes to food. What’s that old adage? We eat with our eyes first. And when grocery shopping, above all else, the first indication of any fresh food’s shelf life should be what it looks like: ripe avocados are black, not green; ripe peaches have a wide cavity around the stem; the best ears of corn will be big and plump, and the silk at the very top of the cob should be tinged brown. Then you play around with the other senses. Is it firm enough (never buy a mushy tomato)? How does it sound (ripe watermelons should sound hollow)? Does it smell funny (fish should be odorless)? Um, wait, is it leaking? Leaks are never good.
Cooks, chefs, foodies and plain old eaters everywhere know how to appreciate food as much for its beauty as its flavor. To that point, I’m eager to unveil my food porn photo gallery on Flickr! As you know, I already post pictures with my blog entries, but it’s often hard to choose which angle should be the singular representation of any given dish. Once I do, I end up with the following dilemma: what to do with all the rest of the tantalizing food porn I possess? Now I’m finally going to share.
The best part? You don’t even have to hold your breath. It’s already ready already, and waiting to incite mouth-watering cravings just by clicking here. In addition to most of the visuals the blog has hosted since its inception in September 2007, my Flickr collection boasts new portraits of me and my Tribe and the foods we’ve been concocting (and devouring) since our inception many Septembers ago when we all started NYU together. If that’s not enough to wet your appetite, I’ll be posting ever more pixies as I take them, so stay tuned for future food porn.
Veteran readers, I hope you’ll enjoy the eye candy. New foodies from Flickr who’ve wandered over with increasing curiosity, welcome and bon appétit!
