Every cook in the kitchen has chefs on the page to help her through consommé, baking bread, and the equivalent of the dreaded “writers block:” recipe blank. I make no qualms over seeking inspiration and information from others’ recipes, and almost always start a new recipe of my own after several hours perusing those of master chefs and bakers. More often than not, and especially around the holidays in mia cucina (check out the picture to the right!), these kick-ass gourmets include Mario Batali, Maria Helm Sinskey, Jamie Oliver, and of course, Julia Child.
